Happily Ever After might just be a real possibility in Girl with the Diamond Slipper, a definite forgotten gem in the Shaw Brothers back catalog of films. Hong Kong superstar Maggie Cheung Man Yuk takes center stage in this exciting Chinese Cinderella story that comes straight from the mind of prolific Hong Kong film director Wong Jing! In this 1985 film, Cheung plays an aspiring television actress who needs a pair of shoes for a fancy party, a place where she just might meet her “handsome prince.” The thing is, one of the shoes has a secret – a hidden diamond! It seems that two moronic thieves played by Wong Jing and Nat Chan rob a house, only to have the dying owner hand over his precious diamond for safekeeping! But when a separate group of thieves turn up looking for the diamond, the thieves duck into a shoe store and hide it from their vicious pursuers. With the stolen property destined for Cheung’s shoes, the budding actress finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of trouble - she’s got the two thieves after her, a pack of vicious killers after the thieves and the heroine herself, and the cops after everybody!
