Yu has directed more than 20 movies in his filmmaking career, and The Postman Fights Back (1981) is among his earlier works. The movie stars international star Chow Yun Fat, coupled with Cherie Chung who was the hottest actress at that time. Action stars Leung Ka Yan and Eddy Ko offer spectacular action scenes to spice up the film. The story is set in China in the early Republican era. Warlords are fighting with each other, and a warlord named Yuan Shikai is trying to revive imperial rule and coronate himself king. One day, a mysterious man who calls himself “Postman” stays in a little inn. A man named Yao, who has just robbed some bandits, hides in Postman's room. The bandits, thinking them to be in the same gang, go after them and want to kill them. Yuan Shikai's assistant Hu saves their lives, and asks them to deliver a wooden box to a remote destination. Thinking of repaying Hu, they agree to his request, without knowing that they have already become part of Yuan's plan in eliminating the Republicans....
